Lumo the robot with a hand on its chin, thinking FAQ

Questions, answered

Permissions, Premium codes, role order, privacy and limits.

Setup

Why does Lumo ask for so many permissions?

The invite link asks for one permission bundle (309576723664). It does not include Administrator, Kick, Ban or Manage Server. Each permission is tied to a feature:

You can switch individual permissions off in Server Settings → Roles. Everything else keeps working; only the feature in the table stops.

Why can't Lumo give out a role? How do I move its role up?

Discord only lets a bot hand out roles that sit below its own role. If reaction roles, color roles or auto-role fail:

  1. Open Server Settings → Roles.
  2. Drag Lumo's role above every role it should give out.
  3. Save, then try again. Make sure it still has Manage Roles.
Where did /reactionrole and /customize go? What is the web dashboard?

Reaction roles and Customize moved from slash commands to the web dashboard (beta), together with pages for giveaways, polls and AI channels (where the AI chat answers). Log in with Discord at dashboard.lumobot.org, pick your server, then use Roles (post, edit or delete reaction-role panels, or add the 12 color roles) or Customize (a custom name, personality, avatar, profile banner and bio; needs Premium).

You only see servers where you have Manage Server or Administrator and Lumo is present. Reaction roles, giveaways and polls need Administrator; Settings and Customize need Manage Server. Panels you already posted keep working exactly as before. /help in Discord links to the dashboard too.

Can I choose which channels Lumo answers in?

Yes. In the web dashboard (beta), open your server, then Features and the AI channels card (it is also linked from Settings). You need Manage Server. Pick one of three modes: everywhere (the default, so nothing changes until you choose), only in the channels you tick, or everywhere except the channels you tick. Threads and forum posts follow the channel they belong to.

Where Lumo is told to stay quiet it does not reply, does not call the AI and does not use up anyone's daily limit. Music, games, giveaways, polls and the other commands still work in every channel, and direct messages are unchanged. There is no slash command for this yet; it lives in the dashboard.

Can one channel have its own tone, or only answer when mentioned?

Yes. On the same AI channels page, add a channel note to any text channel. The tone hint is a short line (up to 200 characters, for example friendly and brief) that Lumo follows in that channel only. It can only describe a tone: links, mentions and anything that tries to give the AI new orders are refused. You can also tick only answer when @mentioned or replied to, so the bot ignores its name in normal chatter there but still answers a real mention or a reply.

A server can have up to 25 channel notes, and each list holds up to 100 channels. Saving rules does not need Premium, but the AI chat itself still does.

Can I change the welcome message and the welcome card?

Yes, for free. Every new member gets a welcome card: a picture with their avatar, their name and their member number, next to a short message. In the web dashboard (beta), open your server, then Features and the Welcome card (it is also linked from Settings). You need Manage Server. You can turn welcomes on or off, pick the channel (the same one /setup welcome sets), turn the card off, change the card's title and subtitle and the message above it, watch a live preview and reset everything to the defaults.

Use {user} for the member's name, {mention} to ping the new member (in the message only), {server} and {count} for the member number. Pings for @everyone, @here, roles and channels are removed, Discord invite links are not allowed, and only the new member can ever be pinged. If the card can't be made, Lumo posts the message as plain text.

How do giveaways and polls work?

Only server Administrators can run /giveaway and /poll (the commands are hidden from other members). They start one with /giveaway start (prize, duration, winners, optional required role) or /poll create (a question with 2 to 10 options, an optional duration, and an option to let people pick several). Members press a button: Enter or Leave for a giveaway, one button per option for a poll.

Winners are drawn at random from people who are still in the server, and a reroll never picks the same person twice. Poll votes can be changed and are never shown by name. Each server can have up to 10 giveaways and 10 polls running. They are free, use no AI and never count toward the AI limits, and their buttons and timers keep working after a restart. The same tools are in the web dashboard (beta).

How does the music queue work?

/play adds one song at a time. If nothing is playing it starts right away; if a song is already playing, you get Added to queue with the song's position, and the next song starts by itself when one ends. Each server can have up to 25 songs waiting. If a song can't be played, Lumo skips it and says so.

The now-playing message shows what is up next and has Pause/Resume, Skip, Stop (which also clears the queue) and Queue (a private list of the next 10). /queue view, /queue remove (by position) and /queue clear do the same from the command line. Anyone in the voice channel can use the buttons and the remove and clear commands, and so can admins; anyone can look at the queue. The queue lives in memory, so a restart or Lumo leaving the voice channel empties it.

Premium

How do I redeem a Premium code?

After you pay and message Ori you get a code that looks like AETH-XXXX-XXXX. Someone with the Administrator permission runs this in the server that should get Premium:

/premium redeem AETH-XXXX-XXXX

Premium is active right away. Check it any time with /premium status. After 5 wrong codes in 15 minutes you are locked out for the rest of that window, so copy the code exactly.

What happens when Premium ends?

AI features switch off: AI chat, live voice and emoji descriptions. Lumo posts a notice when it ends.

Your custom name, personality, avatar, banner and bio from the web dashboard are paused, not deleted, and they come back if you renew. Everything free keeps working: music, the 7 games and Lumo Coins, giveaways and polls, reaction and color roles, logs, autorole, welcome messages, /profile, /server and /top.

Nothing renews by itself. See renewals and expiry.

How do renewals work, and will I get a reminder?

One code is 30 days. Codes stack: redeem another while Premium is active and 30 days are added on top of your current end date, so renewing early loses nothing. About 3 days before Premium ends, Lumo posts one reminder in your server's system channel (or DMs whoever redeemed the code, then the server owner, if it can't).

How do the AI, image and video limits work?

To keep things fair, each person gets 20 AI replies per day in a server, and each Premium server gets 100 AI replies per day in total. An AI reply is one answer from the AI: a chat reply or a live-voice reply. Both counts reset at midnight Eastern Time.

When you use up your own 20, or the server uses up its 100, Lumo says which limit was reached and when it resets (at most once an hour per channel) and stays quiet until then; other people can keep going if only your own limit was reached. Music, games, roles and every other non-AI feature keep working. Images and videos have their own monthly limit.

Images and videos share one monthly limit: each person gets 2 per month in a server (an image, an image edit or a video), and each server gets 15 in total per month. Videos are 3 seconds long. They reset on the 1st at midnight Eastern Time. Errors and content-policy blocks don't count. When a server uses one up, Lumo says so in one line, with the reset date, at most once an hour per channel.

Privacy

Does Lumo store my messages?

Only briefly, and only in servers with Premium. To follow a conversation it keeps a short record of recent channel messages (the first 280 characters, up to 150 per channel) in channels where the AI may answer, and each one expires after 3 days. A server without Premium, or a channel with the AI switched off, keeps no message text at all. If you delete a message on Discord, its saved copy is deleted too.

Lumo does not record or save voice audio. What you send to the AI (messages, images and what you say in a voice channel when live voice is on) is processed by a third-party AI provider, xAI (the company behind Grok), to write the reply. Lumo Coin wallets, stats and server settings are kept until deleted. Full details are in the Privacy Policy.

What won't Lumo create?

Lumo follows Discord's rules and the AI provider's. It never makes explicit sexual content. Suggestive images are made only in age-restricted channels. Nothing sexual, suggestive or revealing is made from a real person's picture (a member's profile picture or a photo you attach), even in age-restricted channels. If the AI provider refuses a request, Lumo tells you so and does not reword it to get around the refusal. See the Terms of Service.

Help

How do I reach Ori?

The fastest way is our support server on Discord: ask questions, report bugs or get help with Premium there. To buy a Premium code or send a data deletion request, message me directly: Message Ori on Discord. I also build and maintain the bot on GitHub as @OniSyris.
